A study of the application of operations research in the valuation of players in IPL

The main objective of this whole research is to find out about the ways in which Operations Research could be used in valuing players which in this case are the IPL players. We found out that it is not compulsory that the method used in valuing the players should be numeric. It could be the case that a theory has been used and the players are valued according to that theory. The methods used in order to value the players are the performance-based index, hedonic pricing, ordinary least squares regression technique, and AHP-ANN model. In a performance-based index, the performance of a cricketer is quantified into one single index and present values of the cricketers are determined using the binomial option pricing model. In hedonic pricing, the price of a player is calculated based on internal and external factors. Some of them are Experience, Batting, and Spectator Appeal etc. In ordinary least squares regression technique, the value of a player is calculated by measuring the values of the variables which include experience, performance etc. In AHP-ANN model, AHP is used to measure the weights of the attributes which are responsible for player price measurement and then ANN is used to forecast the player price with the weights calculated by AHP.

Political elite and their roles in Nagaland

The political elite emerged in Nagaland after the creation of Nagaland statehood. Many Naga leaders were of the opinion that political elite emerged out of nationalist activities that most of the leaders who held an important leader in the Government and political parties after its statehood were formerly the leaders of the Naga National movement. The introduction of a Universal adult franchise and representative democracy under the constitution paved the way for periodic elections which build popular leaders who were not necessarily from the ruling elites but commoners who have faith in democracy. The real power shifted to legislators who became the decisions makers in the new Parliamentary system of government in Nagaland. The elected leaders were empowered to act independently in the decision making with enthusiasm and knowledge that they were not only architects but became a responsible leaders for the future of the people.

Home automation using zigbee technology and IOT

Technology is a never ending process. From the past decade has seen significant advancement in the field of consumer electronics. Various devices such as cellular phones, air-conditioners, home security devices, home theatres, etc. are lead us to smart home/home automation. They have given rise to a PAN(Personal Area Network) in home environment, where all these appliances can be interconnected and monitored using a single controller. Busy individuals and physical limitation/old aged people requried home automation and networking to ease their work. home automation networks uses many systems like wireless embedded sensors and actuators that enable monitoring and control applications for home user and give an efficient home management.

Case Study

Pedestrian walkability index

The objective of this paper is to study the walkability index and to rate the areas based on safety, security, and convenience to the Pedestrian environment. This study evaluates and reports the existing condition of Pedestrian facilities in the area considered and its analysis from both qualitative and quantitative point of view, comparing it with a study of various standards stipulated by HCM and IRC parameters which could be used for the design of Pedestrian facilities. The survey and analysis is done in city Davangere, Karnataka. To get the overall measure of Pedestrian Walkability Index of the city, it is classified into two different areas i.e. Commercial and Shopping areas, are selected for the study. The Pedestrian Walkability Index (PWI) survey consists of 2 components i.e. Field walkability survey and a Pedestrian interview survey. The Pedestrian LOS and adequacy of footpaths was carried out based on the guidelines of HCM 2000 and IRC:103-1988 respectively. In the selected areas, the length of the stretch and width of the available footpath was measured. The Pedestrian volume counts were taken during peak hours and the average pedestrian walking speed was computed manually. From these data, the Pedestrian flow, density is calculated and the LOS is obtained. And based on the Pedestrian volume in the areas, the adequacy was checked and the recommended footpaths widths were proposed as per the recommendations of IRC. In the widths of the selected areas in Davangere city, only 16.7% are inadequate and the remaining 83.3% is adequate.

CFD based heat transfer analysis in circular tube with different orientation of insert for laminar flow

The process industry is continuously working to incorporate enhancement in heat transfer. Enhancement techniques can be classified as active methods, which require external power or Passive methods, which require no direct application of external power. The enhanced surfaces are routinely used to improve the thermal and hydraulic performance of heat exchangers. This thesis presents a CFD analysis of heat transfer problem. The enhancement of heat transfer with mass in a tube has been investigated without and with insert. The combinations of without inserts, two inserts, four inserts, six inserts, eight inserts, and ten inserts have been used. An 800 mm long pipe with 26 mm inner diameter and 30 mm outer diameter is considered for our simulation. It was noticed that outlet temperature decreases with increase in Reynolds number when insert orientation was changed.

Smart garbage bin

Garbage monitoring has become an essential issue for most of the cities in the world. The detection, monitoring, and management of wastes are one of the primary problems of the present era. Due to the negligence of authorities and carelessness of public, long-term problems such as bad odor and harmful diseases occur. The traditional system of waste collection and management is effective only in those areas where garbage bins become full on a daily basis. But in certain areas, garbage production is low whereas the garbage collection trucks check the garbage level each day. This checking and collection process leads to heavy fuel loss. In remote locations, garbage trucks do not arrive to pick the garbage on time leading to garbage overflow. To overcome these problems we have introduced “Smart Garbage Bin” as an effective system. The smart garbage bin employs a level detector that detects the amount of garbage in the bin. When the level of garbage in the bin reaches 75%, a notification is sent to the operator of the garbage collecting vehicle through a web interface.
