Integrated platform and response system for healthcare using Alexa

This paper presents a healthcare system by providing virtual personal assistance using the Amazon Alexa. Amazon Alexa is an application program that understands voice commands and completes that commands for the user. Amazon Echo is not only a smart speaker but operates as an intelligent personal virtual assistant. Alexa is Hands-free that can allow easier access to the medical information. Alexa has been programmed with the information about the patients, doctors, nurses, pharmacy details, events and general information about the Healthcare. Users can interact with the Alexa to find out the scheduled appointments, availability of the doctor, availability of the rooms, etc.

Enhancing the accuracy of digit recognition using machine learning algorithms

Handwritten character recognition is one of the important issues in pattern recognition applications. The applications of digit recognition include postal mail sorting, bank check processing, data entry form, pin code identification, identify the doctors' prescriptions etc. The conversion of an image based on the digit into letter codes for further use in a computer or text processing application is the first step in an off-line handwriting recognition system. This paper presents an approach of (MLP) Multilayer Perceptron neural network to recognize and predict handwritten digits from 0 to 9. MLP is a class of feed-forward artificial neural network. It consists of at least three layers of nodes having an input layer, a hidden layer, and an output layer. Each node is a neuron that uses a nonlinear activation function. The MNIST database is a large database of handwritten digits that is commonly used for training various image processing systems contain 60,000 training images and 10,000 testing images. The dataset was trained using gradient descent back-propagation algorithm and further tested using the feed-forward algorithm. The system performance is observed by varying the number of hidden layers. Various algorithms used for image processing have been discussed. The main objective of this paper is to ensure effective and reliable approaches for recognition of handwritten digits.

Smart factory: A methodology for adaptation

The purpose of this paper is to find from literature, (a) why ‘smart factory’ is an appropriate development to the factory system now, and (b) what is a smart factory, and what are its constituents and governing principles of design. The findings are used to propose a methodology for retrofitting or designing a smart factory. In the first step, the prevailing factory system and its weaknesses are identified. In the next step the technological developments, that are conducive to form the smart factory, which outperforms the existing factory system, are reviewed. In the third step the smart factory definitions are analyzed and in the fourth step the constituents, governing design principles, as identified from the literature are collected, analyzed and categorized. In the final step, we used the findings to propose a methodology to retrofit an existing factory or design a new smart factory. The literature concerning ‘smart factory’ is abundant, and a strict selection scheme was used, to choose the literature for the study. This might have eliminated some relevant literature. Smart Factory is a disruptive development to the existing factory system, and as such the findings first assist to identify the ‘advanced knowledge in science and technology’ that is needed for success (sensors, IoT, storing and processing a huge amount of data and data analytics). It then identifies various possible technologies that can constitute to specific smart factory implementations and guide with the design principles. The value of this research is the proposed methodology, which can guide anyone planning to move forward in the smart factory path.

Juvenile Recurrent Parotitis

It is a rare condition and characterized by multiple episodes of parotid swelling and/or pain associated with fever or malaise over a period of years. Juvenile recurrent parotitis (JRP) is defined as recurrent inflammatory parotitis in children of unknown etiology.1 Salivary gland diseases in children are rare, apart from viral-induced diseases. Clinical diagnostics and especially the surgical treatment are influenced by a stringent indication and a less invasive strategy. Due to the rarity of tumors of the salivary glands in children, it is recommended to treat them in a specialized center with greater surgical experience. In most cases, the symptoms resolve spontaneously after puberty but all children should be screened to exclude Sjogren’s syndrome, lymphoma, and immunodeficiency including human immunodeficiency virus. Parotid abscess results as a complication of primary parotitis and are very rare in the pediatric population, we present a 6-year-old girl who had 15 episodes of recurrent parotid swelling over past 3 months.

Development of protein rich product

The growing public awareness of nutrition & healthcare research substantiates the potential of phytonutrients such as polyphenols, saponins, essential amino acids, dietary fibers, flavonoids on their health benefits. Proteins are the major macronutrient required by the body. Protein Energy Malnutrition (PEM) develops in children whose consumption of protein and energy is insufficient to satisfy the body’s nutritional needs. 91% of Vegetarians in India suffer from PEM. Hence, there is a need to develop a Protein-rich product. Chickpea, Mung& Soy Flour was used in the preparation of chips. These chips were analyzed for their Nutritional, phytochemical, microbial and sensory parameters & a suitable packaging for the product was also developed. The present study showed that the product is a good source of protein (20%) and carbohydrates (62%). The product was liked very much by all the participants (score- 8). High quality 40 microns PET/MET was used as packaging material for the Product which are durable, heat resistant films with very good oxygen barrier properties.

Occupational Therapy rehabilitation of postoperative hand injury cases and their functional independency

Occupational Therapy (OT) after revascularization/replant of hand injury is not available in all center. The prevalence of hand injury cases in India from road traffic incidences is about 30% and the total number of hand injuries would go higher upon adding the industrial injury cases. When primary repair isn't possible, tendon reconstruction is done. Kleinert (active extension, passive flexion) is a basic early motion program for rehabilitation of hand injuries. There have been significant innovations in therapy programme in different zones of tendon injuries in past. The aim of this study was to analyze the functional improvement after a postoperative regimen with the use of splints and Occupational Therapy. The objective is to determine the improvement in the Range of Motion (ROM) and muscles strength with Occupational Therapy (OT) along with home-based activities in hand reconstruction cases Design: Thirty-two patients with different tendon injuries were retrospectively enrolled in this study from one and a half year of routinely collected data. Gross grip, fine grip, and range of motion were measured using JAMAR, pinch O meter, and finger goniometer respectively. Statistically and clinically significant improvement was observed in muscle strength (gross and fine) and range of motion in these patients' hands after modified Kleinert splint, custom made splint and home base exercise in all patients (p <0.001 ). With OT, patients with hand reconstruction surgeries can recover their muscle strength and range of motion to a great extent under supervised therapy and make them self independence in all activities. This can be done through the use of simple home-based tools and occupational therapy exercises.
