A study of operations research in relation to the logistics sector and rising fuel prices

Problem resolution based on assumptions of a simple cause-and-effect relationship is insufficient in a complex activity like logistics. One of the highest costs contributing to “reducing transportation costs” concerns is the price of fuel. To avoid a substantial rise in operational expenses, it is important to adapt and develop a plan while simultaneously pursuing reduced costs. This necessitates the use of operational research technique that is based on mathematical processes. The cost of fuel consumption is determined by the distance travelled and the road conditions (in the case of poor road conditions, the width of the road can impact the vehicle's speed as well as the amount of fuel consumed). This article focusses on strategically evaluating on how to reduce these costs in the logistics sector by using relevant Operations Research Techniques in order to achieve profitability without affecting the operation and customer service.

Using The Transfer Matrix Method Analyzing Muffler Performance

Internal combustion engine is considered as a major source of noise pollution. And these engines are used for various purposes such as, in power plants, automobiles, locomotives, and in various manufacturing machineries. Engine created noise pollution becomes a vital concern when used in residential areas or areas where noise creates hazard. Generally, noise level of more than 80 dB is injurious for human being. Exhaust noise and the noise produced due to friction of various parts of the engine are the main sources of noise in an engine. The exhaust noise is the most dominant one and to reduce this noise, various kinds of mufflers are generally used. The construction and the working procedure of mufflers usually affects the level of exhausts noise reduction. Engine makers have been making mufflers for more than 100 years. As the name suggests, muffler serves the primary purpose as to reduce or muffle the noise emitted by the internal combustion engine. Technology for muffler has not changed very much over the past 100 years. The exhaust is passed through a series of chambers in reactive type mufflers or straight through a perforated pipe wrapped with sound damping material in an absorptive type muffler. Both types are having strengths and weaknesses. The reactive type muffler is generally restrictive and prevents even the good engine sounds from coming through, but it does a good job of reducing noise. On the other hand, most absorptive type mufflers are less restrictive, but allow too much engine noise to come through. Despite of the packing material, absorptive type mufflers tend to get noisier with time.

Use of Operations Research in Aviation-Scheduling of Aircraft and Crew

In these testing times of the pandemic, the aviation industry has suffered huge losses and the key is to optimize the cost by mathematical and technological advancements. Operations research helps optimizing fleet and crew to maximize efficiency, reduce costs and reduce delays. This paper deals with how integer linear programming and simulations help to solve the problem.

The Potential Role of mRNA Vaccine: In treating SARS-CoV-2

An effective vaccine is needed to halt the proliferation of SARS-CoV-2 that is: Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2. An RNA vaccine is a type of vaccine that uses a copy of a natural chemical called messenger RNA (mRNA) to produce an immune response. COVID-19 BNT162b1 mRNA vaccine has been proved omnipotent enough for eliciting robust CD4+ and CD8+ T Cell responses and powerful antibody responses. COVID-19 mRNA vaccine can make fake versions of the viral protein especially, S antigenic protein but, potent enough to elicit a primary immune response against the COVID-19 virus. T Cells and commendatory cytokine retaliation induced by the BNT162b1 mRNA vaccine propose that it has a future to protect against SARS-CoV-2 Keywords: SARS-CoV-2; COVID-19 BNT162b1 mRNA Vaccine; Spike Antigenic Protein; Protection Against SARS-CoV-2.

Landfill site selection with spatial suitability analysis and multi-criteria decision making in Devchuli municipality

Solid waste management (SWM) being an important aspect of infrastructure development defines the state, status of urban development in terms of other co-related aspects such as Political, Environmental, Socio-Economic, and Technological as well. The prevailing Landfill Site in Devchuli Municipality needs to be assessed in terms of various criteria as the needs of rapidly growing and emerging cities are changing. Moreover, the landfill site is a public decision and requiring inputs from various stakeholders and groups in compliance with the participatory approach involving various voices for complex decision making. Geospatial Technology and its applications can be used in these sorts of Assessments. The multi-criteria decisions are based on various aspects as suggested by previous researchers. The combination of these criteria and the use of Geospatial Technology allows us to assess the suitability of the Landfill site. The output will be able to find out the challenges and give a clear vision for further research.
