Abstract

The Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) is an initiative by the Government of India that fosters collaborations between Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) and rural communities to promote holistic rural development. The present study was conducted to examine the waste collection system, sources of water, sanitation system, source of energy and power, landholding information, agricultural inputs, agricultural production in a year, live stock numbers and major problems persisting in Mudikandam village, Trichy, Tamil Nadu, a constituent state of India. Insights were drawn from a survey by UBA coordinators from Indra Ganesan College of Engineering, Trichy to enhance rural development of v0illage. The findings reveal that the major problems persisting are lack of street lights, hospital, regular buses, plastic recycling, school, cow shelter. The implementation methodology includes a new scheme named Gramasabha meeting was aimed to engage with the local community, understand their needs and discuss ongoing development activities, Solar Street Light Installation Programme programme was organized with the objective of promoting rural development and encouraging the use of sustainable and renewable energy sources and 250 cloth bags were distributed to the public to promote environmental awareness.
