Finite element analysis and experimental investigation of ceramic coating on automotive piston by high velocity oxygen fuel technique

In the Internal Combustion (IC) engine, there are unburned hydrocarbons due to the improper combustion that takes places during exhaustion which leads to air pollution. These unburned hydrocarbons can be reduced by coating the different ceramic powders on the top of the piston. Here, an automotive piston is modeled and finite element analysis is done with different ceramic powders of 125 µm and 250 µm thicknesses. Different ceramic powders namely Alumina-Titania (60%-40%), Alumina, Titania, and Zirconia are coated on the piston. The coating is done on the piston by High-Velocity Oxygen Fuel (HVOF) technique. The experimental analysis is done on Kirloskar engine with uncoated aluminum piston and Zirconia coated aluminum piston with different loads. The experimental results such as exhaust gas temperature, mechanical efficiency and Carbon monoxide (CO) emissions for both the pistons are compared.

Quality and productivity improvement in gear manufacturing process by using quality control chart and capability analysis including sampling

Increasing productivity and profitability are main objectives of any organization. Many tools and techniques are used to reduce rejections and defects of product. Most of the rejections and defects are occurred due to improper control of the quality of a product. So the use of 7 Quality control tools is the best way to reduce rejections and defects of a product after analyzing of the manufacturing process. Another advantage is increasing customer satisfaction by use of 7 Quality control tools in the today competitive market. Based on the application of these tools will increase the level of standard products which they require a vision of an organization. The purpose of this work is to discuss the effect of implementation of Total Quality Management (TQM) in manufacturing industry (Press Com Industries Pvt Ltd.). Very few service companies have been able to reap full benefits of TQM. One major reason for its inadequate success is that of trying to implement in service companies techniques that have been successful in manufacturing. In manufacturing, an emphasis on TQM is on “zero defects”. Control charts and sampling are the major tools of quality control. However, in services, an emphasis is on “zero defections”. The focus is on customer satisfaction and team approach. TQM can boost profits and improve customer satisfaction by reducing defects.

Detecting the elusive P-wave: A new ECG lead to improve the recording of atrial activity

The lead selection method that was developed to detect the optimal bipolar electrode placement for the recording of the P-wave. The study population consisted of 117 lead Body Surface Potential Maps recorded from 229 healthy subjects. The optimal bipolar lead was developed using the training set then extracted from the testing dataset and compared to other lead systems previously reported for improved recording of atrial activity. All leads were assessed in terms of P-wave, QRS and STT root mean square (RMS).

Turn touch- Revolutionary control of the screen

Screen Turn Touch is a software implementation of the touchscreen. It uses two cameras to visually track a feature on a material and use the movement of the tracked feature to directly control the mouse pointer on a computer. The material could be an LED light or the tip of the stylus or even the human hand. In this project, two cameras are used to monitor the movement of the tracked feature and accordingly calculate the relative positioning of the feature with respect to the screen of the device to be operated upon. Both the cameras will then diffuse the image and integrate it to form a single image and successfully calculate the coordinates. These coordinates are then used to move the mouse pointer to the specific location, as calculated by the system. Turn touch is based on a principle of Digital Image processing and involves many steps of image retrieval and processing such as image acquisition, color conversion, and thresholding, morphological processing, object identification, coordinate mapping. These steps facilitate the conversion of the tracked feature into coordinates. In this project, Java CV and Open CV libraries have been used. These libraries contain various classes that can be used for the processing and manipulation of the images. Using Java CV we can directly use Open CV libraries in JAVA that was originally meant to be used in C/ C++.

Metamaterials: Types, applications, development, and future scope

This paper has presented an introduction about Metamaterials and their scope in the fields of optics, and engineering. In recent years, there has been a growing interest in the fabricated structures and engineered composite materials that have new, physically realizable response functions and properties that do not occur or may not be readily available in nature. In the last decade, a new research area based on the study of Metamaterials has emerged. There is not an absolute definition of Metamaterials but this word is a combination of “meta” and “material”, which means something beyond, changed or something advance, and the most commonly used is that they are artificial materials made of a periodic arrangement of unit cells and have negative refractive index and referred to as left-handed materials. Metamaterials are expected to have an impact in the field of optics as well as in the field of engineering. Metamaterials are used as antenna, sensor, and absorber and in Metamaterial and there is no research is possible without the development in the fabrication structure. Metamaterial have a negative refractive index and due to this property metamaterial causes light to bend in unusual ways, and come back out the same way it went in, and invisible cloak may be constructed in future.
