Thermal Energy Storage in Sensible Materials: A Review

The intermittent, variable and unpredictable nature of solar energy lead to mismatch the rate and time of solar energy collection and its thermal applications. As a result, it is necessary to have energy storage unit which stores solar energy when the collection is in excess of load and discharges the same when the direct collection is inadequate. To store solar energy in sensible heat storage materials, pebble bed systems are simpler, economical in design and development as compared to latent or thermo-chemical energy storages. A number of studies are available on heating and cooling of pebble beds describing their parameters like pebble size/diameter, bed porosity, surface area, a shape factor of storage media/pebbles to observe the behavior and characteristics of storage devices. Many correlations are available to analyze the heat transfer coefficients, friction factors and pressure drops in between the solids and circulating fluids in pebble beds. The relations are of importance and best suited for energy storage system modeling.

Health Monitoring System for Comatose Patients: A Survey

This survey paper outlines the existing and proposed system for a comatose patient health monitoring aid. In general, the comatose patients never respond for anything however they might abnormal movements are frequently encountered in patients with brain injury characterization of these movements and their underlying pathophysiology is difficult due to the comatose or uncooperative state of the patient. Thus, we reviewed the available literature regarding abnormal movements encountered in acutely ill patients with brain injuries. There are so many abnormal movements in the seen in each category as well as their epidemiologic, semiology and clinicopathologic correlates. We propose a practical paradigm that can be applied at the bedside for diagnosing abnormal movements in patients. which they are self-conscious and that can make them reticent. The Hand Talk glove is a normal, cloth driving glove fitted with flex sensors. The sensors output a stream of data that varies with the degree of bend made by the fingers. Flex sensors are sensors that change in resistance depending on the amount of bend on the sensor. They convert the change in a bend to electrical resistance and send data to the doctor.

Object Identification Using Image Fusion

Image processing and computer vision are the wide research areas which has much focus towards the representation of objects, like biomedical image analysis, Traffic surveillance systems and face recognition systems. In this paper, the two major techniques i.e, Image Registration and Image Fusion were considered for the analysis of images taken at traffic surveillance system. Image registration is a major task in image processing in matching is performed by considering two or more pictures taken from different sources at different times from different sensors, or from different viewpoints where the two images are referred as a reference image and sensed images were geometrically aligned.  Image fusion is the method of combining appropriate information from two or more images into a unique image. [1]  The resulting image will be more helpful than any of the input images.

Analysis of Duration of Heavy Vehicle Induced Occlusion of Overhead and Sideway Signs

Traffic signs are used to convey critical information, such as directions, advisories, etc. to drivers, however common experience indicates that there exist instances of missing a sign due to visual occlusion. The situation leading to missing a sign typically arise from an obstruction in the cone of vision of the driver because of the presence of a larger vehicle of it. The combination of distance headway, vehicle heights, vehicle speeds and sing characteristics, which may lead to occlusion, have been mathematically analyzed in this thesis. The analysis shows that if a traffic stream is operating in specific regions of a Cartesian apace than larger vehicles will occlude a sing from smaller vehicles following or adjacent to them. While studying such occlusion reading time of signs were also taken into account. Given the expected stream behavior on a road, one can determine when vehicles will have trouble reading signs.

Aerobic and Anaerobic Waste Water Treatments as Microbial Fuel

Anaerobic wastewater treatment differs from conventional aerobic treatment. The absence of  oxygen leads to controlled conversion of complex organic pollutions, mainly to carbon dioxide and methane. Anaerobic treatment has favourable effects like removal of higher organic loading, low sludge production, high pathogen removal, biogas gas production and low energy consumption. Psychrophilic anaerobic treatment can be an attractive option to conventional anaerobic digestion for municipal sewage and industrial wastewaters that are discharged at moderate to low temperature.
