Abstract

Automation is a multidisciplinary platform that involves controls and drives. Though drives and controllers build automation together without sensors it is not possible. Sensors are the vital device that interacts with the physical environment and responds to the system in the form of input. These inputs are further processed based on the predetermined programming in controllers to give the respective output via drives. Industrial sensors are broadly classified as a retro-reflective sensor, capacitive sensor, photoelectric sensor, ultrasonic sensor, and a magnetic sensor. The reliability and switching frequency of the sensor is the key factor to determine the performance of the system. In this paper, a detailed study on one such key factor named switching frequency is taken for experimental study with retro-reflective sensors. The significant study of the switching frequency and the comparison of the performance the statistical methods like descriptive statistics, correlation, and chi-square test are used.
