Abstract

Mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is an autonomous system of mobile nodes that dynamically self-organize in arbitrary and temporary network topologies. Nodes in the network cooperate in multi-hop topologies to constrain their transmission power as they are usually battery-powered handheld devices. A node acts both as client or a server by forwarding and receiving packets to and from other nodes. Mobility of node needs a dynamic routing protocol and for this challenging issue of routing in ad-hoc networks an attempt has been made in this work to evaluate the performance of three protocols LEACH, AODV, TORA by taking average end-to-end delay, packet delivery fraction, and packet loss as evaluation parameters. In this paper 2 different scenarios for simulation are taken and then their results are analyzed. As per the differences that are found in the protocol mechanics which lead to significant performance differentials for these protocols then analysis of performance differentials is done using varying simulation time using the ns-2 network simulator. The result presented in this work is important for evaluation and implementation of routing protocols in MANET and through analysis weaknesses can be found in these protocols and their solutions can be proposed.
