Abstract

Irrigation is the application of supplying of constrained amounts of water to plants based on their needs at regular intervals of time. Irrigation helps to cultivate agricultural crops, maintain landscapes and check disturbed soils in dry areas and during times of less than average rainfall. Conventional methods that are used for irrigation, such as overhead sprinkler and flood type are not the most efficient. They result in a huge wastage of water and can also promote diseases such as fungus formation due to the high moisture content in the soil. With the help of an automated system, we can conserve water and also the viability of the farm. The availability of fresh water for the agriculture sector is decreasing as the day passes due to increasing in population, industrialization, and short rainfall. It has become a necessity to use modern irrigation technologies to help overcome these shortcomings. In automated system water availability to crop is monitored through sensors and as per its vital needs, watering is done through the controlled irrigation. The main focus remains on parameters such as temperature and soil moisture. This automated system called Digitalized Irrigation Monitoring System using IOT addresses all the vulnerable aspects of the traditional methods of irrigation and agriculture. This system is based on an application-controlled monitoring system. The main objective of this project is to control the water supply and monitor soil parameters through a smartphone. The system is developed using Arduino as the main processor of the system, with the help of rain sensor, soil sensor, temperature sensor etc.
