Abstract

Medicinal plants contain different bioactive compounds which have great importance for the health of individuals and communities. These compounds produce definite physiological action on the human body. Medicinal plants besides therapeutic agents are also a big source of information for a wide variety of chemical constituents which could be developed as drugs with precise selectivity. Thin layer chromatography is a simple and efficient method used to identify and quantify secondary metabolites in herbal drugs. The present study was carried out to verify the thin layer chromatographic (TLC) profiling of Solanum nigrum L.using different solvents and it showed different RF value. The results obtained in the present investigation indicated that the plant is rich source of secondary metabolite i.,e. alkaloids.
