Abstract

"For most people technology makes things easier. For people with disabilities technology makes things possible”. -Mary Pat Radabaugh (1993) This paper advocates the significance of Assistive Technology (AT) in Inclusive Education: Creating Scope for Person with Disabilities (PwDs). It suggests that Inclusive Education is the most important feature for the PwDs to their lifestyle which has both social and academic aspects. “AT is any item, equipment, hardware, product or service which retains, increases or advances the functional competences of individuals of any age, especially those with disabilities, and supports them more easily to communicate, learn, enjoy and live better, more independent lives” (BATA, 2011). AT is one of the most accurate features in making education progress in inclusive settings. AT is seen to be the most empowering instrument to achieve the goals of independent living. It plays a vital role in taking up the process of including PwDs placing and giving them genuine opportunities to participate and learn together in an inclusive environment. As “Education for All” claims, within the common classroom the concept of teaching and learning that integrates assistive technology approaches and accommodations, become more significant for PWDs in the inclusion setting. The paper discusses an enhanced understanding of AT and its relationship with PwDs. Also, it explains how AT can support the dynamic involvement and full inclusion of PwDs in every aspect of life.
