Abstract

The Mallayapally block is located in the central part of Mulugu coal belt forms more or less rectangular block with average strike length of 3.30 km and width of 1.20 km. The Mallayapally block empirical research found an exponential link between Vp calculated from sonic logs and Uniaxial Compressive Strength (UCS) calculated from core samples of sandstones from all throughout the Godavari Valley. Vp and Tensile Strength (TS) and Vp and Young's Modulus (E) have both been found to have polynomial and exponential connections. The empirical connections can be a valuable tool for understanding the effects of regional and local geological and geotechnical variables on mine development and management.
